BMW 3 Series (E46)/Nissan Stagea: «station wagon» that rolls sideways
Coupes and sedans rule the drift, hatchbacks are a rarity, and station wagons are even more so.
Which, however, does not prevent a couple of «sheds» from performing in the Russian drift series at once, which are associated with anything, but definitely not with burning tires in a controlled skid. One of the most famous cars in RDS GP is Arkady Puchinin's E46 BMW 3 Series station wagon. The car was chosen for a very prosaic reason - no one had one, which made it easy to stand out among all the participants in the Russian drift. Since then, the pilot has not changed his German wagon and a 500-horsepower BMW, stylized as official cars of the New York Police Department (there are even flashing beacons that Arkady turns on during the race!) Since 2014, he has been invariably present at the RDS GP stages. As Puchinin recalls, in those years, drifting was more of a show than a sport, so such a car fit perfectly into such a concept, and since then the pilot has got used to the car and is not going to change it for anything.
But now A-Motorsports «cop» BMW is not alone in Russian drifting, as Ilya Fedorov built his station wagon around the huge Nissan Stagea. In the early 2010s, a pilot who had previously driven such a car in everyday life thought about building a drift station wagon.
The «source» was bought five years ago, and then the slow process of building the drift Stagea began - the car was prepared for the 2020 season, but, as Ilya himself notes, so far this is more of a test version. The engine is not powerful enough, the car is still too heavy, the suspension does not meet all of Fedorov's needs, so these three areas are the key areas that the driver plans to work on in the offseason. But the prospects for the car are good - technically it is largely unified with other Nissan models, which will bring the station wagon to victorious standards. Moreover, the 400-horsepower Stagea has already brought its pilot 2nd place at the RDS Moscow Cup-2020.
