Lada Vesta: front-wheel drive, which has become rear-wheel drive
The newest AvtoVAZ model to date is more accustomed to seeing on the routes of the NSR RSKG, where a front-wheel drive sedan performs in two classes at once than in drifting, but nevertheless there is such a project in the RDS GP.
Naturally, Lada Vesta had to be seriously modified for this. The drift sedan was prepared by Clubturbo, which initially specialized in tuning domestic cars. The company demonstrated its capabilities using the drift VAZ-2107 as an example, but then something more modern was required as the basis for a new drift car, and the choice fell on Lada Vesta. However, unlike the "Zhigitsar", which will be discussed further, as a result, quite a lot remained from the Togliatti sedan - for example, the body. But something had to be changed simply because initially Lada nodes were not designed for the loads that drift implies. Therefore, a 740-horsepower engine from Toyota settled under the hood, a number of components are also from the Japanese automaker, but there are also many own solutions. In particular, the front suspension was completely created by Clubturbo, the rear suspension was also pretty well modified by Russian specialists, and in general there is a lot of know-how in the car.
Work on the drift Lada Vesta began in 2018, and the entire process of developing the car went in digital format - at first everything was calculated on a computer model, and then it was already embodied in hardware. 2019 became a test year for the novelty, and by the RDS GP-2020 season, all the shortcomings were taken into account and the car was transformed. An all-new suspension, a new engine and a host of other innovations make the 2020 Vesta so much better than last year. This is also noted by pilot Andrey Astapov, who drives a Lada drift car. The project, according to its creators, will develop, so that soon Lada Vesta can start winning not only in ring races, but also in drifting.
